*This poem was on a card given to Elisabeth and me on our wedding day, 10 January 1981, by my best man, Peter Rundell.*
Edward, my comrade, brother and my friend,
Let this high, joyful season be the start
In both your lives of freshness without end –
Such joy that others long to play a part
Alongside you in all your love and fire.
Beside you is your joy, your heart and love;
Entirely free from fear, you will mount higher
To storm by grace the gates of Heaven above.
Elisabet, alike God’s servant too;
Do you two walk a road quite free of rules,
Where Cross alone sets bounds, and so are you
A pair set free to serve, the Lord’s sharp tools.
Rejoice this day in one another, then;
Destiny’s yours, high far beyond your ken.
