Elisabeth and I, aware we are not getting any younger(!), are determined to follow a few dreams we have had for many years. One is to get to know the west coast of Norway. We just got back from 11 days in the fjords north of Bergen. It was a 2,300 km trip, towing our tiny caravan which gave us a wonderful freedom of movement. This map shows our route. It is well worth looking more closely at the extraordinary topography of the fjords at https://www.google.com/maps/@61.9053299,7.9341308,8.23z/data=!5m1!1e4?entry=ttu

Our first night was near Bygdin, just north of Beitostølen, at over 1,000 metres altitude, camping wild:

Then on north towards Geiranger, via this lake Breiddalsvatnet...

And up over the mountains and the still partially frozen lake of Djupevatn....

... to the legendary Geiranger fjord...

...where we did the Skageflå walk up from a boat-dropoff, a steep ascent to the old farmhouse with spectacular views of fjord and Seven Sisters waterfall, before hiking back to Geiranger.

We managed to descend the 11 hairpin bends of Trollstigen the afternoon before the road was closed for the rest of the season owing to rockfalls...

We drove the Atlantic Ocean Road north of Molde, enjoyed 'Probably the best fish and chips in the world' (their claim) at Ålesund, before camping wild again at Hjørundfjorden and then at Fjaerland...

... before visiting Norway's oldest Stave Church at Urnes. A spectacular location, and extraordinary preservation of a wooden building from 1070, one of only 28 Norwegian Stave Churches remaining from over 1,000 which originally existed.

We drove up Sognefjellsvegen to the highest mountain road pass in Norway, at 1470 metres above sea level ...

As well as experiencing the stillness and tranquility of Lustrafjorden:

An enormous experience which filled our hearts and souls. We will be back!
