*29 August 2025* The good weather has finally arrived! After a very cold night (2 degrees?), we woke to cloudless sky. ![[17-GNT - 3.jpeg]] We had decided to have three nights at Fjordbotn, to give a bit of rest from the driving - and to do two short day trips to explore some of the iconic spots of this extraordinary island of Senja, Norway's second largest. The top of the island is shaped a bit like a hand, with fingers pointing north into the open sea. ![[17-GNT - Map.jpeg]] The 20 km drive to Husøy, takes you quickly quite high to secluded lakes and mountains. ![[17-GNT - 4.jpeg]] ![[17-GNT - 10.jpeg]] ![[17-GNT - 11.jpeg]] After two tunnels, the vistas unfold in every direction. ![[17-GNT - 5.jpeg]]![[17-GNT - 7.jpeg]] We stopped for a short climb through the thinning treeline to breathtaking views west towards the mountains of Segla and Hester (tomorrow's climb!). ![[17-GNT - 6.jpeg]] And of Husøy, an enchanting island community of less than 300 inhabitants. ![[17-GNT - 8.jpeg]]![[17-GNT - 9.jpeg]] Still dependent on the fishing industry.... ![[17-GNT - 12.jpeg]] The little chapel was closed but we gave the small Joker supermarket a small amount of business, before returning across the connecting causeway to our car.
