*1 September 2025* We woke to find the ferry queue had built up! ![[20-GNT - 1.jpeg]] By 9am all five lanes were filled, and by 10 the line stretched further down the road. Not everyone got on, so we were glad we had had a worry-free night. Gryllefjord looks nicer from the sea than it does on land. ![[20-GNT - 2.jpeg]] The 90 minute ferry trip was glorious - even if yours truly suffered from the usual mild sea sickness whenever there is the slightest swell. ![[20-GNT - 3.jpeg]] ![[20-GNT - 4.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 5.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 6.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 7.jpeg]] We lingered not in Andenes but headed straight for national scenic route down the west coast of Andøya. ![[20-GNT - 8.jpeg]] Past the old fishing village of Breike, the short distance to our camping at Stave. ![[20-GNT - Map.jpeg]] Where we had the place almost to ourselves.... ![[20-GNT - 9.jpeg]] After stabilising the caravan, we headed off to a walk we had planned - to the large, sweeping, but very secluded beach at Høyvika. It can only be reached by a slightly difficult if not very long hike. ![[20-GNT - 11.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 12.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 14.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 15.jpeg]] We had our first ever swim north of the Arctic Circle. Bracing but not horribly cold. Our sea thermometer said about 15 degrees. The cup of tea we had brought tasted specially good afterwards. ![[20-GNT - 16.jpeg]] Altogether a wonderful walk. ![[20-GNT - 17.jpeg]]![[20-GNT - 10.jpeg]] The evening was warm enough for us to have supper outside, though it was starting to get chillier by 7. ![[20-GNT - 18.jpeg]] Grateful for an unexpectedly beautiful day. Before ending, Ester wanted to add a short comment... *It was all well and good for Mum and Dad to hyperventilate about the lovely views from the boat, but poor me had to stay in the caravan down on the ferry deck for the whole voyage.
