*3 September 2025* With the weather overcast, and rain forecast for the afternoon, we set off on a day trip to the next two islands of the Lofoten group. ![[22-GNT - Map.jpeg]] Just before crossing the bridge to the small island of Gimsøy, we were astonished to spot two dear friends from our choir on Tjörn - Carina and Christer - in a layby near the bridge. We knew they were in Lofoten but not exactly where. ![[22-GNT - 1.jpeg]] ![[22-GNT - 2.jpeg]] Then round Gimsøy, with its views back to the bridge.... ![[22-GNT - 5.jpeg]] And to our camping site. ![[22-GNT - 4.jpeg]] We loved Gimsøy's picturesquely situated church. ![[22-GNT - 7.jpeg]] ![[22-GNT - 6.jpeg]] Further round, the island becomes flatter - but the mountains are never far away. ![[22-GNT - 8.jpeg]] ![[22-GNT - 9.jpeg]] We then drove round the southern shoreline of Vestvågøy to Stamsund (which we found disappointing, probably due to extensive roadworks).... ![[22-GNT - 10.jpeg]]![[22-GNT - 11.jpeg]]![[22-GNT - 12.jpeg]]![[22-GNT - 14.jpeg]]![[22-GNT - 15.jpeg]] And to the island's largest town, Leknes. Elisabeth nearly hyperventilated in one of the shops... ![[22-GNT - 16.jpeg]] The return journey to our campsite involved a big detour due to more roadworks but still plenty to enjoy. ![[22-GNT - 18.jpeg]] On return there was still time before the rain for Ester and me to do a 4km walk up to a secluded small lake at about 190 metres above our campsite. ![[22-GNT - Map2.jpeg]] We were both sorely tempted to have a swim, but only I managed to resist the temptation. ![[22-GNT - 20.jpeg]] I love the colours of the hillside, even in the dull weather. ![[22-GNT - 19.jpeg]] And our campsite beckoned for our return. ![[22-GNT - 21.jpeg]] << [[The GNT, Day 21 - Stave to Rystad (Lofoten)]] | [[The GNT, Day 23 - Austvågøya to Uttakleiv]] >>
