*6 September 2025* It's just as well that today was our last full day in the Lofoten Islands, because today was the day we ran out of superlatives. We woke to sunshine which lasted the whole day. We drove (twice) onto the last main island of Lofoten, Moskenesøya, which as you will see from this relief map does not have much flat land! ![[25-GNT - Map.jpeg]] We drove town to the southernmost settlement where the road ends, the succinctly named Å, another old fishing village, then briefly viewed the damaged ferry quay at Moskenes, before visiting perhaps the most photographed village on Lofoten, Reine. I'll let the photos from this part of the day speak for themselves. ![[25-GNT - 1.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 2.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 3.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 4.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 5.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 6.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 7.jpeg]] Our picnic lunch location did not leave much to be desired! ![[25-GNT - 8.jpeg]] We could see a good part of the famous 'Lofoten Wall' of mountains, which, seen from the sea in good weather, stretch for more than 100 miles. ![[25-GNT - 9.jpeg]] We then crossed another series of bridges... ![[25-GNT - 10.jpeg]] ...to one of the trailheads for the walk to Kvalvika Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Lofoten. ![[25-GNT - 11.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 12.jpeg]] After a steep ascent to the ridge (with boardwalks thoughtfully built with passing places!) before descending to the beach, Elisabeth decided not to continue but Ester and I went down to the beach and then up over a different ridge and down to another car park where Elisabeth met us. ![[25-GNT - 13.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 16.jpeg]]![[25-GNT - 14.jpeg]] ![[25-GNT - 15.jpeg]] What a day, and what a finalé to our visit to Lofoten. 'Grateful' inadequately expresses how we felt. ![[25-GNT - 17.jpeg]] << [[The GNT, Day 24 - Uttakleiv to Flakstadøya]] | [[The GNT, Day 26 - Flakstad to Mørsvikbotn]] >>
