Today we buckled down to two days driving to get home. We reached Rena - 400 kms, in six hours of driving.

First we had to avoid the closure of the E6 caused by a landslide some ten days ago. This disruption is a major one for north-south traffic north of Trondheim. We were routed around some minor roads which only added perhaps 15 minutes to the journey time.
We skirted around Trondheim, rather sad not to visit this Norway’s historic Viking capital. Founded in 997, it’s home to Nidaros Cathedral, built in gothic style in the 11th century. The Cathedral was a place of pilgrimage for people from all over the north.
We decided to use national road #3, a nearly 300 km stretch of road east of the E6. It saves some 40 kms and 45 minutes of driving, but apparently is a lot less majestic than the E6 carving its way through Gudbrandsdalen. Still, we found the road pleasant enough, following rivers for much of the way.

There were the usual passages of major road rebuilding. There are a lot of major projects on the go on these north-south highways.

Since leaving home we have not seen one single elk (moose). This one today was as close as we have got.

We found a place to park our caravan in a large car park in Rena (listed in the very useful Park4Night app). It seemed best and easiest, given the heavy rain that was our companion all evening.
